The following is a list of guidelines offered to facilitate more effective, ethnically competent interaction with Latinos. The extent to which this information is relevant will depend upon the level of acculturation of the Latino individual. Acculturation varies by the individual’s physical characteristics, socio-economic status, level of education, generational standing, birth order, family configuration, attitude toward host country, fluency in English, and origin of Latino ethnic group. The list is neither exhaustive nor is it intended to be stereotypic.
